Respiratory Care Unit
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the forth leading cause of mortality in the U.K and is responsible for 15% of all hospital admissions. Barnet Hospital has some 260 COPD patients in any one year who require non-invasive ventilation. Treatment improves the patients health, while reducing the time in hospital and preventing morbidity which is associated with prolonged ICU admissions.
In the past this service has been provided in a non-specialist setting across all wards with sub-optimal outcome. A new Respiratory Care Unit has been set up in Juniper Ward and the Friends were asked to supply two BiPap Ventilation Control Units, five Chart Tables and five Equipment Trolleys.
The total funding required was £12.996which the Friends agreed to pay.
